All About Shockwave Therapy
What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy (SWT) also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is used to treat soft tissue injuries, scar tissue, adhesions, chronic inflammation, or calcium build-up within the body in a non-invasive way. This low-pressure energy shock is not in an electrical form, but rather an acoustic sound wave that pulses creating a vibration within the soft tissues of the body. This will help break down areas of scar tissue, congestion in the soft tissues, calcium build-up within the body, and chronic inflammation.
Shockwave therapy has deeper results than a normal massage. If you have years of limited mobility, and pain, and have found that massage can not provide relief, shockwave therapy might be the answer.
This low-pressure energy shock is not in an electrical form, but rather an acoustic sound wave that pulses.
When there is an old injury that the body tried over and over to heal but failed, the body will create scar tissue to wall up the injury. This may leave the area with chronic pain and a reduced range of motion. Adhesion or calcium build-up may occur as well as chronic inflammation. The area of injury weakens and is prone to re-injury. This could result from repetitive strain, sports injuries, or overuse.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Promote Healing?
Breaking down the problem tissue area allows the body to try once again and heal the injury. This may sound painful, but for the body to heal, there is some discomfort involved. Why? Because the waves we send down into your tissues, break up scar tissue and then increase blood circulation in the affected area, allowing the healing process to start again.
We will stay within your pain tolerance as the shockwave machine being used gives us the opportunity to fluctuate the speed and intensity of the waves.
Did you know, that patients find an 80% reduction of pain/discomfort and a wider range of motion, within just 1-2 treatments?
